Beach Ultimate is a team sport played by
men and women of all ages. The game is played with a
flying disc (Frisbee™)
and mixes features of Soccer, Basketball, American Football and Beach Volleyball.
The rules are simple. Five players per team try to
catch the disc in the opponent's endzone to score a point.
Fair play, nice spirit, no referees and some good running and throwing make
for a fun and exciting sport!
The Portuguese scene
Portuguese Beach Ultimate is famous for
its international Bar do Peixe Tournament in Meco each
June. This tournament has been held since 1997
and was voted 2nd best in the world.
Portuguese Beach Ultimate
has been growing steadily the last few years. In 2003
the 1st
national championships were held in São Pedro
de Moel. The year after, in August 2004, Portugal hosted
the World Championships Beach Ultimate in Figueira de
Foz. With players from 23 countries it was a great
success.
There
are players organizing games in Lisbon, Palmela, Aveiro, and Portimão.
